Champions Released in 2020

In 2020, Riot released 6 new champions: Lillia, Rell, Samira, Seraphine, Sett and Yone. That ranks 2020 joint 6th of 18 release years by volume, up from 5 in 2019 and against 4 in 2021. The average across every year is 9.6, so 2020 sits below the norm — typical of the slower, larger-kit release pace Riot settled into after the first four years.

The most commonly listed position in this batch is Mid (2 of 6), and the champions span 4 regions, led by Ionia (3). 4 of the 6 are Human. By range there are 4 melee and 2 ranged listings; by gender, 4 female and 2 male. 4 of 6 use Mana; the exceptions are Sett (Grit) and Yone (Flow).

Firsts: 2020 introduced the first Fae (Lillia) species tag and the Grit resource (Sett).

The best first guess among the 2020 champions is Seraphine, ranked 70th of 173 on the strategy page, leaving 4.2 candidates on average — a middling opener. A 2020 guess lights the year cell yellow for anything from 2018 to 2022 — 23 champions, 13% of the roster. Beyond that, 139 champions are older and only 11 newer, so an up arrow is the valuable result: it leaves a short list of recent releases. Play a round to try it.
