Frequently Asked Questions
About the game, the data behind it, and the site.
- Where does Champlab's champion data come from?
Release years are checked against the official League of Legends wiki's list of champions. Regions and species start from Riot's Universe biographies and the wiki's champion pages. Resources and range types come from each champion's in-game stats as published by Riot's Data Dragon. Positions are the roles a champion is commonly played in on Summoner's Rift, cross-checked against the wiki's position listings and current role statistics. Portraits are loaded from CommunityDragon and Data Dragon.
- Why is Wukong listed as Top and Jungle?
Because he's played seriously in both. Positions in Champlab are the roles a champion is regularly picked for, not a single "main" role. Wukong has spent most of his history as a top laner and has been a regular jungle pick for years, so listing only one would make the game unfair to players who know him from the other. 53 of the 173 champions have more than one position for the same reason.
We don't list every role a champion has ever been tried in. Off-meta picks that appear in a small share of games — a support Wukong, say — don't count. The test is whether a typical player would reasonably expect to see the champion in that role.
- How do you handle disputed data?
Some attributes genuinely have more than one defensible answer: a champion whose lore has been rewritten, a species that the wiki and Riot's Universe site describe differently, a role that's drifted with the meta. Our rule is to follow Riot's current canon first, the wiki second, and to list both values when a champion clearly belongs to both — which is why Brand is Human and Spirit, and Aatrox is tied to both Runeterra and Shurima. When a change would only flip one cell for one champion, we lean towards the value most players would guess.
If you think we got one wrong, email us via the contact page with the champion, the column and a source. Corrections that hold up are applied to the next release of the site.
- Two champions gave me exactly the same row. Is that a bug?
No. Gragas and Olaf share all seven attributes — both are male, Top/Jungle, Human, Mana, melee, from the Freljord and released in 2010 — so the grid alone can't separate them. If one comes back all green without winning, the answer is the other one. The strategy guide checks the roster for pairs like this.
- Why is the release year yellow when I'm a year off?
The year cell is yellow whenever your guess is within two years of the answer, and the arrow points toward the correct year. It's red only when the gap is three years or more. See how to play for every colour rule.
- Is Champlab unlimited? Is there a daily champion?
It's unlimited. There's no daily puzzle and no cap on how many rounds you play — a new random champion is drawn as soon as a round ends. The draw works like a shuffled deck, so you'll see every champion once before any repeats.
- What's the difference between the modes?
Only the number of guesses: Impossible gives you one, Challenger five, Gold eight and Noob unlimited. Each mode keeps its own streaks and records, and the Top X% comparison only ever compares you with other players in the same mode.
- How is "Top X%" calculated?
Every finished round is counted anonymously by mode and number of guesses, along with whether it was won. After a win, Top X% is the share of all recorded rounds in that mode that were won in as few guesses or fewer. Losses count in the total. For streaks, the figure is the share of ended streaks that reached at least your best, and it only appears once the mode has 100 recorded streaks.
- When are new champions added?
We aim to add a new champion within a week of their release on the live servers, once their positions have settled and the wiki has their lore details. The newest champion on the roster right now is Locke (2026). Every champion list, analysis and sitemap entry on this site is generated from the same data, so they all update together.
- Why can't I find a champion's portrait?
Portraits are loaded from CommunityDragon first and Riot's Data Dragon as a backup. If both are blocked — by a network filter or an aggressive ad blocker — the champion's name is shown instead. The game works either way.
- Do I need an account? Is my progress saved?
No account, ever. If you allow it on your first visit, your mode, streaks and records are saved in your own browser's local storage and never sent to us. The privacy policy explains exactly what's stored and has a button to delete it.
- Where do the Quote game's voice lines come from?
From the League of Legends wiki's champion audio pages, which transcribe each champion's in-game lines. The audio itself is streamed from the wiki. See the Quote game page for how its modes work.
- Is Champlab affiliated with Riot Games?
No. Champlab is an independent fan project made by Riupo AB under Riot Games' "Legal Jibber Jabber" policy. Champion names and artwork belong to Riot Games. More on who we are on the about page.
